Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs
  • What is a boy choir? The Crystal Coast Boy Choir’s mission is to foster the development of boys into young men through the gift of music. A boy choir propagates high level music theory and performance in a disciplined structure while cultivating the joy of music to the youth. Seeing a lack of choral opportunity specifically for boys in Eastern North Carolina, CCBC provides the fundamentals, character development, and leadership for vocal music education. CCBC focusses on excellence in vocal music performance of both sacred and secular works.

  • Who is eligible? Biological boys 2nd grade in age, until the male voice changes.

  • How much does it cost? Tuition for the 2026-2027 season is $195 per semester (plus the cost of practice uniforms). Financial assistance and tuition scholarships are available – CCBC is not cost prohibitive for those in need.

  • How often are rehearsals, and where are they? Once a week, on Monday afternoon 4:30-6 at Elysian Performing Arts Center 5058 HWY 70 in Morehead City.

  • What is the performance schedule? There is a standing "Christmas" and “Spring” concert; with other performances as requested by the community.

  • What can my son expect in rehearsal? Rehearsal provides a fun, yet professional atmosphere for children to develop the skills needed for high level vocal music. This is not “music class” but is training presenting in an engaging setting, for true musical education. The Music Director, Phil Routszong, provides a traditional vocal education teaching fundamental music theory and sight singing. The boys are to gain fellowship and friendship amongst those in the group, while studying the art of vocal music. Rehearsals bring the structure needed for excellence, coupled with an understanding of the limitations of young boys. Phil is the father of five, with the founder, Parker, having three children of his own. Thus, CCBC’s leadership is not foreign to guiding children of all ages.

  • How many boys are in the choir? Choir size is limited to 32.
